My trip…
Last week I was able to take a few days off and experience
travel in an RV. I took the RV home after work on Tuesday and
started packing it up to go out for the rest of the week. It
took less than an hour to get everything I needed loaded and
secured for my trip. On Wednesday morning I went to the store
and purchased a few things I needed for meals and set out to
Half Moon Bay.
Once I arrived in Half Moon Bay, I went to a couple of RV parks
and was disappointed to find that I could not have a camp fire
in either one. I went back into town and stopped at the local
shopping center and looked up camping in the area. I found that
the state beach was just around the corner and headed down the
road to it. Since I had no reservations, I was worried about
getting a sight but once I got there I was greeted by the campground
host and given a list of available sights. I drove around and
found the perfect spot; a few trees, picnic table on the inland
side of the RV (which helped slow the coastal breeze in the
campsite) and a nice fire pit!
I unhooked my Jeep, parked the RV and pulled out a lawn chair,
faced the ocean and relaxed. I noticed some people on horses
passing the campground and asked them if the horses were rented;
they were excited to give me directions and off I went! It was
a perfect day for a two hour ride on the beach. Once I came
back, there were more people in the campground and we all kind
of gathered around and talked for what seemed like hours. It
was so nice to be surrounded by happy, relaxed people. They
were from as far away as Montana, and as close as Union City.
It was really neat sharing stories of travels and getting recommendations
of other places to see, eat and visit.
Later in the evening a couple was having a problem with their
Generator and I asked if I could take a look. They were delighted
to have someone offer to help them out. It turned out that there
was a loose spark plug wire and it only took a couple of minutes
to get it running again. On the way back to my campsite I passed
another couple camping in a tent whose camp fire was a bit lacking.
I offered to give them some of my wood or they could come over
and get warm by my campfire. The quickly took the offer to come
over to my fire and get warm. They were a couple from the UK
that rented a car and were traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles.
They were very impressed with the RV that I was in and asked
for a tour. I gladly showed them through it and it didn’t take
them long to decide that an RV was going to be part of their
next visit to the US.
On Thursday morning I could not sleep as a force of habit so
I got up and drove down to the marina and got on a charter boat
and went fishing. The weather was again perfect and the seas
were a bit rough. I caught a fish almost right away and then
became ill. It was a long day on the water but it was so nice
to come back to the RV and be able to relax next to the ocean.
I didn’t have to pack bags in and out of a hotel room, I was
able to cook my own food, and have a campfire (yes, I love sitting
next to the fire and enjoying the light crackle of logs burning,
the flickering light and the warmth of it).
On Friday I got up and headed down Highway 1 along the coast
to Santa Cruz. What a beautiful drive! The scenery was incredible.
Once I got to Santa Cruz I found an RV park in the east foothills
and parked the RV. I took my Jeep over Highway 17 and picked
up my daughter from school and headed back to Santa Cruz with
her. We
went back to the RV and took a hike around the campground and
through the redwood trees. We went back to the RV and made dinner
then headed down to the beach for a bonfire with members of
our church. My daughter had a wonderful time and especially
enjoyed s’mores and finding sand crabs on the beach; and I didn’t
have to drive for an hour to get home afterwards!
Saturday morning was the best morning of my trip. I woke up
to my daughter asking what was for breakfast. I told her what
I had and asked if she would like to cook it on a campfire.
She was excited to help build the fire and cook on it to. We
had bacon and eggs, toast and potatoes. We cleaned up breakfast
and did a little cleaning on the inside of the RV before heading
out on our day trip. We took the Jeep and drove up the road
a little ways and went to the Mystery Spot and had a great time
there. We hiked around in the redwoods and sat in the trees
and had a snack. After that we headed into town and ate lunch,
then went back to the RV. We took another hike before leaving
and got to see a lot of neat things along the trails.
Once we got back, we hooked up the Jeep and went back home.
We helped each other unload the RV and cleaned it up then we
both took a nap!
What a great time!
I just want to add; if you are wondering how we know so much
about the RV’s, it is because we have devoted our lives to it.
We study new material, listen to our customers’ experiences,
and we go RVing ourselves! We don’t just know the RV’s on paper;
we know RV’s inside and out, on paper, and practically too.
I am a part of this business because of the family values that
are still present in our customers today. I am a part of a company
that promotes family time, recreation, US history, preservation
of our National and State parks, and most of all, helping our
customers have a better RVing experience.
